The reason I recommend a backup is simple: laundry.

Sometimes the SNOO sacks do not dry as quickly as you expect. Sometimes the baby spits up right after you just changed them. Sometimes there is a diaper leak in the middle of the night. And when you need a SNOO sack, you really need one.

You cannot just throw the baby into the SNOO without the correct sleep sack setup.

As your baby grows, I would aim for:

If you are buying everything yourself, I would start with the size that fits your baby now and add a clean backup in that size.

If you are building a registry, I would register for two in the size your baby needs first. You can add the next size as your baby grows.

If you are planning to use the SNOO for more than one baby, I think having extras makes even more sense. I used the SNOO for my second baby and still love it enough that I plan to use it for baby number three, so these are not one-and-done items for me.

2. SNOO Sheets: How Many Do You Actually Need?

I recommend three to four SNOO fitted sheets.

Happiest Baby sells SNOO Baby Bassinet Sheets made for the SNOO mattress, including organic cotton options and multi-packs.

This is one of the easiest places to underestimate what you need.

One sheet on the mattress and one backup sounds reasonable until the baby spits up on the first sheet, the second one is in the wash, and now you are trying to figure out what to do at 3 a.m.

With three to four sheets, you can keep one on the SNOO, one or two clean in the drawer, and one in the wash.

That is the sweet spot.

Why SNOO Sheets Are Worth Having Extras Of

Babies spit up. Babies drool. Diapers leak. Milk gets everywhere. And even a small wet spot can make a baby uncomfortable enough to fully wake up.

But here is my honest take: The Big Bundle is useful, but it may not be enough.

It gives you one sleep sack in each size and two sheets. That is a solid start, but based on real-life newborn laundry, I still prefer having two sleep sacks in the size my baby is currently using and three to four sheets total.

So if you buy the Big Bundle, I would consider adding:

• One extra SNOO Sleep Sack in your baby’s current size
• One or two extra SNOO fitted sheets

SNOO Leg Lifters: An Update to My Recommendation

I previously included SNOO Leg Lifters as an optional accessory to keep on hand. I’m removing that recommendation.

In its June 15, 2026 warning letter, the FDA said Happiest Baby had not adequately validated the Leg Lifters with the current SNOO system. This is a regulatory warning, separate from the XS and XL sleep sack recalls.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies sleep on their backs on a firm, flat, noninclined surface, including babies with reflux. Raising the head of the crib isn’t recommended as a reflux treatment. AAP guidance

If reflux, congestion, or feeding concerns are making sleep difficult, talk with your pediatrician about those symptoms.

What I Would Skip or Delay

Not every Happiest Baby product needs to be purchased right away.

Here is what I would personally skip or wait on unless you know you want it:

The Sleepea

The Happiest Baby item I would personally skip is the Sleepea Swaddle.

This is not because it is a bad product. If your baby is really comfortable in the SNOO Sleep Sack and you want something familiar for naps, travel, or sleep away from the SNOO, then grabbing one Sleepea could make sense.

But for me, it would not be a must-buy.

The SNOO Sleep Sacks are necessary because they work with the SNOO clips. The Sleepea is more of a regular swaddle option for when your baby is sleeping outside of the SNOO. And once you are in that category, there are a lot of great swaddles and sleep sacks to choose from.

Personally, for swaddling outside of the SNOO, I prefer other options like the HALO SleepSack Swaddle. It is easy to use, widely available, and works well for a regular bassinet, crib, travel setup, or nap situation.

So my take is:

• Using the SNOO? Prioritize actual SNOO Sleep Sacks.
• Need a swaddle for outside the SNOO? Sleepea is fine, but not essential.
• Building a practical baby registry? I would register for SNOO sacks, SNOO sheets, and a few non-SNOO swaddles you can use anywhere.

If your baby absolutely loves the SNOO Sleep Sack feel and you want a similar Happiest Baby option for naps away from the SNOO, then the Sleepea may be worth trying. But if you are trying to keep your baby registry streamlined, this is one item I would personally skip.

The SNOO Comforter Sleep Sack

The SNOO Comforter sleep sack is a thicker, warmer sleep sack option with a TOG rating of 2.0. It’s a good option for babies in colder climates or born in cooler seasons. If you decide a warmer sleep sack is for you, I recommend grabbing one quickly from Happiest Baby, because these tend to sell out a lot.

Extra decorative accessories

Cute? Yes. Essential? Not really.

For the newborn phase, I care most about clean sleep sacks, clean sheets, and safe, simple sleep routines.

Extra soothing products before you know your baby
